Hello, I am Sophie
I am a project manager. A parent. An expat based in Düsseldorf, Germany.
A few years ago, I moved here with my family. What began as a short-term assignment gradually became a new chapter of life abroad.
Origins of the Move
Moving to Germany wasn't in our long-range plan. As with many expat relocations, it began as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far more significant.
The initial months were demanding — unfamiliar processes, routines, and expectations. Daily chores seemed more challenging than they needed to be.
The Transition Phase
Culture shock, doubt, and hands-on learning were part of it. Yet over time, habits took shape. We found spots that suited us, connected with other families, and began creating a sense of stability.
What Prompted the Launch of HiddenBrookLab
Most online guidance fell into corporate relocation tips or shallow tourism content. What was missing was an honest, everyday family point of view.
This site aims to fill that gap — practical advice drawn from real-life experiences in Germany.
What This Site Covers (And What It Doesn’t)
This site is:
- Real-world experience from living in Germany
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated only when something truly changes
This site is not:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- Not a sponsored review platform
- Not a generic travel blog
Looking Forward
Our time in Germany goes on, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I will continue documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Düsseldorf or anywhere in Germany, don't hesitate to get in touch.
Best regards,
Sophie
